Most modern vehicles are fitted with EBS (electronic braking system) which is integrated into the trucks electronics, with the help of a system developed by Granning UK we can still convert a majority of these vehicles by means of fitting an independent EBS system to the new axle.
An axle fitted in front of the drive axle is classed as a Mid Axle, those fitted behind are classed as Tag Axles. Various axles are available for both applications using a range of tyre sizes and suspensions, this enables us to fit the best kit for each vehicle. There is also a wide variety of lifting methods to suit.
If we fit a mid lift axle to a typical 3.8m wheelbase tractor we reposition any fuel or air tanks, fuel tanks can also be shortened where required.
Tag Axles are done by means of reducing the wheelbase where necessary, extending the chassis at the rear and fitting the new axle behind the drive.In both cases the fifth wheel is repositioned so that the correct weight is achieved over each axle.
The wheelbase on a rigid can be extended or reduced to allow different bodies to be fitted, this gives the operator the chance to use their existing vehicles for a different application. The overhang is also extended or shortened to suit.
Tractor units are also stretched into rigids, this produces a high powered rigid plated to 18ton. If we then fit a third axle the vehicle could be plated as high as 26ton.
A 6x2 unit stretched with an additional axle, making a 8x2 rigid can be plated to 32ton.
